Oscar watch

Mel Gibson, who took home two Oscars last year for directing and producing “Braveheart,” will be a presenter on the 69th Academy Awards show. Gibson, who has handed out awards on five previous Oscar shows, is the first presenter announced for this year’s event by producer Gilbert Cates.

Gibson’s credits include “Ransom,” “Maverick,” “Gallipoli,” “The Year of Living Dangerously,” the “Lethal Weapon” and “Road Warrior” trilogies and “The Man Without a Face,” on which he also made his directorial debut.

This year’s Oscarcast will be aired live by ABC, beginning at 6 p.m. March 24.
