New Line rejoins ‘Jones’

Responding to an eye-opening perf by its soundtrack, “Love Jones” will be re-released by New Line Cinema Aug. 8 on several hundred screens nationwide.

Pic, which stars Larenz Tate and Nia Long, originally opened March 14 and grossed more than $12 million. Since then, the soundtrack has gone gold, selling more than 570,000 copies.

Domestic distrib prexy Al Shapiro said New Line is hoping the Chicago-based black romantic comedy, which won the Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, will prove an alternative to the heavy actioner summer fare.

Pic was written and directed by Theodore Witcher and produced by Nick Wechsler and Jeremiah Samuels.
