‘Monty’ hits $100 mil o’seas

In an explosive finale to the fall season abroad, “Starship Troopers” had a high-flying start to its international campaign in Southeast Asia, while “Hercules” was wowing auds in Europe and “In & Out” had a highly promising offshore preem in Spain.

Fox’s “The Full Monty” became the 18th title to cross $100 million abroad this year after minting more than $8 million in 16 territories for a cume of $103.4 million.

“Monty’s” stellar totals include $63.5 million in the U.K. (No. 1 in its lucky 13th lap, easing just 11%), Australia’s $10.2 million, France’s $9.1 million, Spain’s $7.1 million and Germany’s $5.3 million.

Polygram’s left-field hit “Bean” is a no-brainer in Italy, grabbing $3.7 million in four days on 165 prints.

The Mel Smith-helmed romp (estimated foreign cume: $151 million) smashed many house records, playing five rather than four sessions a day; over the weekend, it expanded to 425 prints

Distributed by Buena Vista Intl., “Starship Troopers” took no prisoners when it launched in Singapore with $625,000 in four days on 35 and Malaysia at $443,000 in four on 52.

Conquering Germany, “Hercules” rang up $2.7 million in four days on 574. Platforming in Spain before the school vacation, “Herc” hauled in a handsome $830,000 on 78. Last week the estimated cume was $70 million.

Frank Oz’s gender-crossing comedy “In & Out” uncovered $902,000 in five days on 143 in Spain.

“Air Force One” had an uncharacteristically moderate debut Down Under with $1.7 million on 240 (adding the previous weekend’s previews, the total is $2.6 million). The cume was $97.9 million and heading for the ton as it debuted in Japan Saturday.

“The Peacemaker” landed in France with $2 million on 354.

Fox’s “Alien Resurrection” tumbled by 45% after a socko opening in France, pulling $10.4 million in 14 days.

“Conspiracy Theory” ($58.1 million cume) checked into Spain with a stirring $1.4 million in five days on 190, only 3% below “Batman & Robin’s” entry on 205.

Polygram’s “The Game” had fair-to-good bows in Germany, Hong Kong, Austria and Israel, and has accumulated about $19 million in 10 markets. “G.I. Jane” has collected a vibrant $31 million, including $2.9 million after 12 days in the U.K. (falling a precipitous 43%).

“Seven Years in Tibet” got a critical drubbing and a mediocre $1 million in five days on 213 in the U.K., but has more resonance in Germany with $4.2 million after 11 days, off just 6%.

“George of the Jungle” amazed everyone, including BVI, by collaring $944,000 on 220 in its first Latino engagement in Mexico, the distrib’s second-best live-action bow there behind “Air Force One.” The comedy has cumed $20 million, a click in Australia ($5.7 million) and Southeast Asia but soft in France and Taiwan.

“Anaconda” lost its bite in Italy, winding a foreign journey that has generated a profitable $68.7 million.

P.J. Hogan’s “My Best Friend’s Wedding” gobbled up $295,000 on 31 in Turkey, an all-time industry weekend record beating “Independence Day,” and its cume reached about $96.5 million. Stablemate “Men in Black” towers at $282.7 million.
