Miramax taps Polwrek

NEW YORK — Miramax Films has hired John Polwrek for the newly created job of senior vice president, worldwide promotions.

Polwrek will be based in Miramax’s Los Angeles office and will report to Mark Gill, Miramax president of marketing. He will be responsible for overseeing national promotions, product placement and corporate sponsorship.

“John has tremendous experience and credentials, so he’s a most welcome addition to this department,” said Gill. “We’re looking to him to dramatically step up our presence and profile in the world of product placement and national promotion.”

Prior to joining Miramax, Polwrek spent 13 years at Universal Pictures, rising from field representative to VP of national promotions. He worked on the promotions for such films as “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” “Jurassic Park,” “Dante’s Peak,” “Apollo 13,” “Casper,” “The Flintstones” and the “Back to the Future” series.

Before Universal, Polwrek was director of promotions and publicity at Redstone Management, the theater circuit now known as National Amusements.
