MGM snags Berenger pic

CANNES — “One Man’s Hero,” a long-in-development project starring Tom Berenger and being sold overseas by Kushner-Locke Intl., will be distribbed domestically by MGM.

Produced by Bill MacDonald (“Sliver”) and Lance Hool (“McHale’s Navy”), the film tells the true story of the St. Patrick’s Brigade, an artillery battalion of Irish immigrant soldiers who defected from the U.S. Army to fight for Mexico during the Mexican-American war in the 1840s.

Hool will direct the pic, which shoots in Mexico beginning Sept. 1, with production cooperation from Churubusco Studios. The script was penned by the late Milton S. Gelman.
