In a preemptive buy reported to be the low- to mid-six figures against high-six, MGM has snapped up “Witch Hunt,” a supernatural-comedy spec about a coven of evil witches who come to Earth in the form of supermodels as part of a diabolical plan to take control of the world.
MGM is fast-tracking the script and will announce a director shortly, a studio spokesman said.
Neal Moritz of Original Film will produce, with Lynn Radman and Carolyn Pham exec producing. Moritz recently produced “Volcano.”
Battling the dozen comely witches are a fashion photographer, a famous witch hunter and a good witch. Writer Cinco Paul, who is repped by Frank Wuliger at Gersh, scripted.
The preemptive buy was said to foil Disney and Universal, who reportedly also were interested in the project.
MGM VP Greg Foster brought the project to MGM Pictures prexy Michael Nathanson.
