‘Jane’ asks for trouble

Industry insiders have been chortling that Walt Disney Studios can expect another round of Southern Baptist hospitality for some of the language in the Hollywood Pictures release “G.I. Jane,” which opened last Friday.

The pic could likely draw the Baptist ire — as Disney/ABC did over its newly lesbian sitcom “Ellen” — for a particular phrase that Demi Moore utters to audience applause.

At one point when berated and bloodied by her male military superior, Moore screams out a guttural invitation to him to enjoy partaking in the absorption of a certain anatomical member.

The phrase is repeated and even chanted throughout the film. The buzz at the Hollywood Pictures premiere was that the spicy dialogue could easily take on the national momentum of TriStar’s popular “Show me the money” delivery from “Jerry Maguire.”

But as one preemgoer said: “Don’t expect to see this one on any talkshows.”

The other apparent gaffe refers to the film’s title: Moore plays a wannabe Navy SEAL, but the title describes an Army soldier.

Maybe the Baptists won’t be the only ones complaining.
