Indies make it to Golden Apple circle

NEW YORK — Two thesps, three helmers and two producers will be honored by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani for their contributions to the growth of Gotham’s film and TV industries.

Danny Aiello, Edward Burns, Ron Howard, Greg Mottola (“The Daytrippers”), Jerry Orbach, Tribeca Prods. co-founder Jane Rosenthal and producer Scott Rudin will receive Crystal Apple awards from Giuliani at the mayor’s annual reception for industryites June 11.

Pat Scott, the mayor’s commissioner for film, theater and broadcasting, said the inclusion of Burns and Mottola on the list of honorees will mark the first time that Crystal Apples are doled out to members of the independent film biz.

“Edward Burns and Greg Mottola are the rising stars of the New York indie community, whose stunning growth augurs well for the future of film production in the city,” Scott said.
