The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. will bestow upon Shirley MacLaine the 1998 Cecil B. DeMille award for her outstanding contribution to entertainment. HFPA will present the award to MacLaine at the 55th annual Golden Globe Awards Jan. 18.
In her career, MacLaine has won Golden Globes for best actress in a drama for “Terms of Endearment” and for comedy/musical in “The Apartment,” “Irma La Douce” and “Madame Sousatzka” (tie). She was also nominated for a Golden Globe in six other films. In addition, MacLaine received a nom for best supporting actress for “Postcards From the Edge” and TV pic “Out on a Limb.”
Past DeMille winners include Dustin Hoffman, Sophia Loren, Robert Redford, Lauren Bacall and Robert Mitchum.
