Fuqua to helm Connery in ‘Entrapment’ for Fox

Fresh off his helming debut on Columbia’s “Replacement Killers,” director Antoine Fuqua is in talks to direct Sean Connery in the Ron Bass-scripted “Entrapment” for 20th Century Fox.

Connery and his Fountainbridge Films producing partner, Rhonda Tollefson, will produce the love story- caper pic, scheduled to begin lensing at the end of the year.

In the film, Connery will play a cat burglar who teams up with a female thief posing as an insurance investigator to pull off a heist at a Hong Kong bank. Operating on a framework of twists and turns, the duo fall for one another despite their true, hidden identities.

Elizabeth Gabler oversees the project for Tom Rothman’s Fox film division.

“Con Air” helmer Simon West originally was in negotiations for the helming post but stepped out when he and Fox couldn’t agree on the terms of a deal.

Fuqua is repped by CAA’s Adam Krentzman and manager Scott Bankston of Propaganda.
