Comedy III Prods., which handles licensing and merchandising for the Three Stooges, has picked up rights to market another silver screen star — Bela Lugosi.
Comedy III is at the Licensing & Merchandising Show in Gotham this week hawking material dealing with the slapstick trio and Lugosi.
The actor was known for his portrayal of Count Dracula in the 1931 horror classic “Dracula.” His image as the character is the subject of a commemorative U.S. postage stamp coming out Sept. 30.
“Comedy III is committed to reinvigorating the franchise while introducing Bela Lugosi as Dracula to a whole new generation,” said Patrick Lauerman, VP of licensing and merchandising for Comedy III.
Bela Lugosi Jr. is the licensor for the estate of his father, who died in 1956. Lugosi Jr. had worked with Comedy III on the Three Stooges deal. He also is a founding partner of Benjamin, Lugosi & Benjamin, a firm specializing in representation of heirs’ rights.
