Director Chris Columbus and Robin Williams, who last collaborated on the Fox blockbuster “Mrs. Doubtfire,” may re-team for “Big Friendly Giant” at Paramount.
Columbus is scripting a live-action version of Roald Dahl’s dark children’s fable for producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. It’s the story of a little girl snatched from her bed and taken to a land of kid-eating giants. Once there, she is protected by her kidnapper, a smallish giant who eats only cucumbers.
Williams and Columbus are huddling on the project for a possible 1998 start. Williams next stars in Disney’s “Flubber” and is in pre-production on Interscope’s “What Dreams May Come.” Columbus, who last helmed Fox’s “Nine Months,” is about to begin work on “Stepmom” for TriStar.
