Col TriStar snares ‘Montana’ int’l rights

CANNES — Columbia TriStar will bring a little bit of “Montana” to more than a dozen international territories, with the acquisition of foreign distrib rights to the Initial Entertainment Group pic.

Col TriStar picked up the U.K., Australia, all of the Middle East and Latin America, Portugal, Israel, Benelux, Africa and Eastern Europe for the pic, which stars Kyra Sedgwick, Stanley Tucci, John Ritter and Robbie Coltrane.

IEG is financing the pic and retains remaining worldwide rights. Project is lensing in Gotham.

Pic, the helming debut of Jennifer Leitzes, is about a female mob operative and her best friend, another mobster who has a terminal illness and plans to go out with a bang.

Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber scripted. Mark Yellen and Zane W. Levitt of Zeta Entertainment and Sean Cooley of No Bones Prods. are producing.

IEG exec Cindy Cowan is exec producer.

The deal was brokered by IEG prexy of worldwide distribution Graham King, and Col TriStar execs Peter Schlessel and Clint Culpepper.

IEG has two other pics in post-production: “Oliver Stone’s Savior” and “Family Plan.”
