Columbia TriStar Home Video has acquired worldwide rights excluding Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan to Thinking Prods.’ feature “Implicated,” now shooting in L.A.
The noirish thriller, which began lensing Nov. 3, stars William McNamara, Amy Locane, Richard Tyson, Frederic Forrest, Priscilla Barnes, Roger Clinton and Philip Baker Hall.
Produced by Vicky Pike and directed by first-timer Irving Belateche, “Implicated” is based on Frank Wyka’s 1988 novel “Wishful Thinking.” It was co-scripted by Belateche and Webb Millsaps.
The complex plot has McNamara conning his girlfriend (Locane) into babysitting for his boss’s young daughter. Things take a sinister turn when the boss turns up dead and the daughter goes missing.
Belateche, a USC grad who attracted industry attention with his award-winning short “Saving Souls,” picked up a copy of “Wishful Thinking” at a second-hand bookstore two years ago. When he tracked down the publisher, he learned that a three-year option on the material had just expired.
Pike most recently produced the sci-fi thriller “Bombshell” which Trimark will release on video Dec. 24. Foreign sales veteran Pike pre-sold “Implicated” to Atlas Entertainment in Germany and Eagle Films in Italy and Spain. Japanese rights still are available.
