TORONTO — Famous Players Ltd. says its new 10-screen Coliseum multiplex, billed as the world’s first round theater, was the top-grossing moviehouse in Canada over the Victoria Day holiday weekend.
The Coliseum’s box office totaled C$200,000 ($145,880) from Friday to Monday. It also had the highest Friday- to-Sunday box office in North America — $17,500 — for the new Andy Garcia film, “Night Falls on Manhattan.”
Famous Players, which already operates 521 screens in 111 locations in Canada, has nine new multiplexes under construction and another five that will start by the end of the year. The company, a unit of Viacom, plans to build 12 more next year.
