LONDON — Judi Dench is one of many big name British thesps starring in Turner Classic Movies’ annual short film competition, TCM Classic Shorts, held in partnership with the 46th Regus London Film Festival.
Now in its third year, TCM Classic Shorts attracts new British directors and actors looking for a chance to have their work seen by some of the biggest names in film. Other big names to appear in entries to this year’s competish include thesps Prunella Scales and Jenny Agutter, and comedian Jenny Eclair.
Judges on the fest’s panel include Hugh Grant, helmers Richard Eyre (“Iris”), Stephen Frears (“High Fidelity”), Mark Herman (“Little Voice”), Neil Jordan (“Interview with the Vampire”), and Iain Softley (“The Wings of a Dove”), as well as producer Stephen Woolley (The End of the Affair”).
Closing date for entries is Sept. 17 and winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the National Film Theatre Nov. 12. Last year Ewan McGregor gave first prize to “About a Girl,” which went on to win the BAFTA for best short.
