NEW YORK — Olympia Dukakis and Roy Scheider will star in the low-budget independent feature “Better Living,” which began lensing Thursday.
“Better Living” is the feature film debut of New York Stage & Film Co. co-founder Max Mayer, who directed a stage version that also starred Dukakis.
Set in suburban New York, pic is a dark comedy about a father’s return home to his dysfunctional family after an absence of 15 years. The screenplay was written by Mayer and playwright George F. Walker from Walker’s play.
Rounding out the “Better Living” cast are Edward Herrmann, Debra Hedwall, Catherine Corpeny, Wendy Hoopes and James Villemaire.
Lemore Syvan and Ron Kastner of Goldheart Pictures are producers. Goldheart currently is in post-production on Stuart Burkin’s “Harvest” starring Mary McCormack and John Slattery, and Matt Mulhern’s “Walking to the Waterline,” starring Mulhern, Hallie Foote and Hal Holbrook.
Syvan and Kastner currently are in pre-production on “Lady Appledore’s Mesalliance” and the film adaptation of Wendy Wasserstein’s Broadway play “The Sisters Rosensweig.”
