Beckinsale near deal for ‘Disco’

Kate Beckinsale, the British thesp who starred in “Cold Comfort Farm” and A&E’s “Emma,” is in final talks for a role in Whit Stillman’s long-hibernating “Last Days of Disco” for Castle Rock Entertainment, sources said Wednesday.

The project, which Stillman wrote over several years to direct for Castle Rock, has a greenlight from the Time Warner-owned company. Stillman is set to start lensing in early August.

Beckinsale is the first to join the pic that is expected to be an ensemble effort in the vein of Stillman’s two other pics, “Metropolitan” and “Barcelona.”

Stillman and John Sloss are producing. Castle Rock prexy of production Liz Glotzer is exec producing.

Beckinsale will play an American (her first) in the story about a group of recent college grads who hang out in a popular disco.

Other credits for Beckinsale include the upcoming “Shooting Fish,” which Fox Searchlight will release.

Her deal was brokered by ICM agents Jane Brand and Tracy Brennan.
