Miramax has picked up North American rights to writer-director Todd Haynes’ glam-rock pic ”Velvet Goldmine.” Ciby Sales will handle overseas rights to the London-based Zenith Prods. pic. Set in 1970s London, the film stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Toni Collette, Ewan McGregor and Christian Bale, and will be exec produced by Yalda Tehranian and Lindsay Williams.* Image Organization topper Pierre David and Aldos Spagnoli of Spanish independent television company Telcinco have inked a 10-pic pact. Image has sold the rights to four films, all budgeted at about $3 million each: ”Stranger in the House” and ”Man of her Dreams,” as well as ”The Killing Grounds” and ”Captured,” both in pre-production. Image has agreed to deliver three to four additional films this year and the remaining projects in 1998. The L.A.-based filmmaker also agreed to an extension of its deal with the Netherlands-based distributor RCV 2001, which will continue to own the license to Image films in Benelux.
