For those who missed the recent festivities on the French Riviera, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences will celebrate the 50th Cannes Film Festival in Los Angeles from June 17 to July 5.
Kicking off “Cannes 50” will be an Academy salute featuring clips from prize-winning films, and a discussion with Cannes-honored filmmakers and actors. The salute takes place at the Academy’s Beverly Hills headquarters at 8 p.m. June 17.
Among those expected to attend are Isabelle Adjani — who served as jury president at this year’s festival — Anouk Aimee, Marie-Jose Nat, Daniel Auteuil, Michel Blanc, Roland Joffe and Delbert Mann.
The event will continue June 18 and 19 in the Bing Theater at the L. A. County Museum of Art (LACMA), where three new French films from the festival’s Official French Selection will receive their American premieres.
A retrospective of films that won the Palme d’Or, best director, actor or actress awards will unspool at LACMA for three consecutive weekends, beginning June 20.
Cannes 50 will be co-presented by AMPAS, Unifrance and LACMA. For further information about the Academy salute, call (310) 247-3600. For a screening schedule or to purchase tickets, call LACMA at (213) 857-6010.
