LONDON — Veteran Italian director Marco Bellocchio, whose “The Prince of Homburg” competed at Cannes this year, is among 10 jurors announced for the 50th Locarno Intl. Film Festival (Aug. 6-16).
Bellocchio is joined by actresses Geraldine Chaplin, Katrin Cartlidge and Maria de Medeiros; helmers Claire Denis from France, Fernando Solanas from Argentina and Richard Dindo from Switzerland; and American photographer Nan Goldin. Also signed on for judging chores are Swiss cinematheque head Freddy Buache and Swiss Cultural Minister David Streiff, the fest’s former topper.
Italo director Bernardo Bertolucci will receive the annual Leopard of Honor award at a ceremony on Aug. 8, followed by a screening of a new print of “Last Tango in Paris” in the Piazza Grande.
Two more jury members are still to be confirmed. The fest is to announce its full lineup of pics in the next 10 days, and is understood to have secured a major U.S. blockbuster for opening night.
