MADRID — Spanish prodco Dolores Pictures has launched an international sales op, based out of Los Angeles and Madrid.
Sebastian Fernandez, who has been appointed head of sales, and sales executive Cela Ortega, will run the in-house initiative. They will report to Dolores Pictures prexy Jose Magan.
The new team has closed the first sales on the next project from Dolores Pictures, the English-lingo “Whore,” licensing video/DVD rights for Spain, Italy and Portugal to Universal Pictures. Lusomundo Audiovisuais has already taken film and TV rights for Portugal.
Based on true-life experiences and a bestseller in Italy, “Puta,” written by Spanish actress-turned-author Isabel Pisano, pic mixes interviews and a fictional narrative. Based a screenplay by Luna, Pisano, Adela Ibanez and Jorge Parrondo, pic will be helmed by director Luna (“Stranded”).
Per Magan, Dolores and Lusomundo are in advanced talks to seal a deal ceding Lusomundo a first film/TV rights option for Portugal.
“We want to go step-by-step. But our aim is to pre-sell our projects before shooting,” Magan told Daily Variety.
“Whore” is skedded to shoot January 2003.
