Universal Studios Home Video has named Charlie Katz senior veep of marketing. He fills the void created by the departure of Craig Relyea, who joined DreamWorks late last year.
Katz, who previously was veep of strategic marketing at MCA Records, will be responsible for overseeing and managing advertising, merchandising and promotional tie-ins.
He’ll also shepherd the marketing and positioning of the vidarm’s products in addition to working closely with other Universal divisions to develop strategic alliances.
“(Katz’s) diversified entertainment background and impressive experience will provide the kind of leadership necessary to continue our success and meet the challenges of the future,” said Andrew M. Kairey, exec veep of the vidarm, and to whom Katz will report.
Katz’s background also includes nine years in ascending posts with the Disney Channel during the cabler’s infancy.
