Warner Bros. has signed Chicago White Sox slugger Albert Belle, baseball’s highest-paid player, to its endorsement roster for its new WB Sport brand of sports apparel and merchandise.
Belle joins a list that includes Tyrone (Muggsy) Bogues of the Charlotte Hornets, Patrick Ewing of the New York Knicks and William Fuller of the Philadelphia Eagles. WB expects its roster to number about a dozen by the time the WB Sport brand makes a wide debut this fall.
Last year, Belle signed a deal with the White Sox that will give him more than $52 million over five years. The terms of Belle’s deal with Warner Bros. were not disclosed, although the studio said that it was a multiyear agreement.
“This will be a banner year for me — with my new association with Warner Bros., the White Sox deal and being in Chicago — who could ask for more?,” Belle said.
Belle “is a premier athlete and we are very proud to have him,” said Michael Peikoff, vice president of property development for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to show the public the real Albert Belle — a dedicated, focused and exceptional individual.”
The WB Sport brand already has appeared in the Warner Bros. Studio Stores., and will be put on everything from calendars and student planners to ties and boxer shorts.
