CINCINNATI — E.W. Scripps Co.’s consolidated revenue rose 7.6% in July to $90.1 million, compared with $83.8 million in July 1996.
Entertainment division revenue moved up 17.1% to $10.4 million thanks to progress in all of the division’s businesses.
Newspaper advertising revenue increased 9.2% to $40.5 million, and total newspaper revenue moved up 9% to $56.5 million. Revenue from the television station group increased 0.5% to $23.1 million. The year-ago month included $900,000 in political advertising vs. none this year.
Scripps operates nine TV stations; daily newspapers in 16 markets; United Media, a worldwide syndicator and licenser of news, features and comics; two TV production companies, Scripps Howard Prods. and Cinetel Prods.; and the Home & Garden Television network.
Scripps has announced an agreement to acquire the daily newspapers, TV station and radio station operated by Harte-Hanks Communications.
