Minerva Theaters, Holland’s third-largest exhibitor, has been taken over by Haig Balian, a longtime Dutch industry leader, and Jan Willem Verhoef, a financial consultant.
Balian is currently managing director of Polygram Filmed Entertainment Germany. Minerva has some 38 screens, mainly in medium-sized cities and towns in Holland, including Arnhem, Breda and Haarlem. It has achieved a reputation for renovating older sites as well as building new but smaller plexes.
All shares of Minerva were transferred to Balian, whose purchase of the company was a private investment, and Verhoef, after company owner Jo van Willigen announced he would retire.
