The Writers Guild of America West has announced the panelists and attendees for a conference in Maui scheduled for Aug. 23-27.
The Writers Guild Maui Roundtable is a “working retreat” where scribes and industry executives can network and share expertise. The confab includes “The Alchemy of Independence,” a multipart seminar designed to acquaint writers with the elements of the independent film world.

Writers, directors and producers scheduled to participate in the conference include Yvette Lee Bowser, James Brooks, T.S. Cook, Callie Khouri, Christopher Lloyd, Christopher McQuarrie, Gregory Nava, David Rintels, Lynn Roth, Aaron Sorkin, John Wells and Lee David Zlotoff.
Industry execs scheduled on the agenda include, Barbara Boyle of Boyle-Taylor Prods.; Gene Brown, WGAW’s director of residuals; Jack Lechner, Miramax Films’ exec VP of production & development; Bill Mechanic, chairman and chief exec of Fox Filmed Entertainment; Larry Meistrich, prez and chief exec of The Shooting Gallery; Emanuel Nunez of CAA; Grace Reiner, WGAW’s director of contracts; attorney John Sloss; Rosalie Swedlin, senior VP and co-head of ICM’s motion picture department and Laura Ziskin, prexy of Fox 2000.
