Rich Cronin, the former chief at Nick at Nite and its nostalgic spinoff TV Land who was ousted from his post after telling his bosses he had signed a contract to become prexy and CEO for the Fox Family Channel and Fox Kids Network, suddenly finds himself in the middle of a court battle to resolve his future.
It clearly wasn’t what Cronin had in mind after being recruited to court an audience. A preliminary injunction filed by MTV Networks that seeks to prevent Cronin from joining the News Corp. fold until July, when his Nick/TV Land contract was due to expire, was heard the week of Dec. 15 in New York State Supreme Court. Cronin took the stand in his own defense.
The court was adjourned for the holidays until Jan. 7, which will be more than two months after the Oct. 30 announcement of Cronin’s hire at Fox. Insiders close to the case report that the ruling — expected a few days after the hearing resumes — could go either way.
