IATSE backing boycott of Regal

In support of projectionists alleging unfair treatment, IATSE officials plan to hold a press conference today in Washington, D.C., to launch a boycott of all Regal Cinemas theaters.

Tom Short, prexy of the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, AFL-CIO prez John Sweeney and locked-out workers will speak at AFL-CIO headquarters.

IA officials say the Knoxville, Tenn.-based company is systematically eliminating full-time projectionist positions with part-time employees. Regal, the third-largest exhibitor in the nation, operates more than 2,000 screens at 230 locations.

Regal officials could not be reached for comment.
