The much-hyped guest appearance of Tom Cruise Tuesday gave Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution’s “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” its highest-ever metered-market average, and made “Rosie” the most watched talkshow of the day.

In the 35 overnight markets, “Rosie” averaged an 8.9 rating and 26 share, beating King World’s “Oprah,” 7.8/20, and Buena Vista TV’s “Live With Regis & Kathie Lee,” 4.8/19. “Rosie” outperformed its previous metered-market high of 6.1/19, and it finished first in its time period in 26 of the 35 overnight markets.

In the nation’s largest market, New York, “Rosie” averaged a 12.3/40 at 10 a.m., which was 22% higher than its previous high. In fact, competitors in New York appear to be scheduling some of their weakest shows against “Rosie” at 10 a.m.

As expected, Paramount Domestic TV’s “Montel Williams” is moving from WNYW, where it was scheduled at 10 a.m. against “Rosie,” to WWOR, where it is expected to air at 2 p.m. In its place, WNYW will be running reruns of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and “I Love Lucy.”

WNYW isn’t the only New York station that appears to be keeping its better shows away from “Rosie,” whose competition at 10 a.m. now includes the struggling talkers “In Person With Maureen O’Boyle,” “Scoop With Sam & Dorothy” and “Rolonda,” as well as the soap “Guiding Light.”
