:In a rare example of a syndicated series getting picked up by a network, UPN has snared the exclusive rights to the Saban Entertainment teen serial “France Pascal’s Sweet Valley High,” committing to a 22-episode order for the 1997-98 season and acquiring all 66 previously aired episodes. The half-hour series, based on Pascal’s series of young adult novels which are said to have sold more than 120 million copies worldwide, will premiere next fall as a key player in UPN’s launch of a daily, hourlong teen-aimed strip. It stars identical twin sisters Brittany and Cynthia Daniel. “Sweet Valley High,” in its third season, currently runs on 104 stations covering 83% of the U.S. UPN also announced Monday that it has acquired the rights to develop Saban’s “Breaker High,” a new series exploring teen life aboard a luxury ocean liner that serves as a floating high school campus.
