BERLIN – Pubcaster ZDF, one of Germany’s top producers of documentaries, has sold several of its series to U.S. cable webs, including the History Channel and the Discovery Channel.
“The new specialty cable channels have resulted in additional sales prospects for German programs on the U.S. market,” said Horst Mueller, VP of ZDF Enterprises’ North American Operations. “The input of our U.S. partners is becoming increasingly instrumental in the production of ZDF’s non-fiction programming.”
ZDF is following up its successful series “Hitler – A Profile” with six-parter “Hitler’s Henchmen,” about the Fuhrer’s close associates. The series, written and produced by German historian Guido Knopp, will be shown on the History Channel. The six-part historical series “When the Century Was Young” has also been acquired by the History Channel.
The Discovery Channel will broadcast six more episodes of ZDF’s “Terra X” series. Nature film “The Messengers of the Gods” is a co-production of the Discovery Channel and ZDF.
Five episodes of the series “Legends of History,” about historical personalities such as Marco Polo and Rasputin, will run on the Learning Channel.
