Based on the success of off-CBS reruns of “How’d They Do That?” the Learning Channel has ordered 26 original episodes of the series from Telepictures Prods.

The new episodes will air at 8 p.m. Sundays on TLC, starting Jan. 5. They will be rebroadcast at 11 p.m.

The hour-long reality series, which aired two seasons on CBS, contains multiple segments about the facts behind the headlines. It’s unusual for an off-net series to go back into production with original episodes, but the move was expected (Daily Variety, July 11). A British version is in its fourth year on the BBC.

Sports commentator Pat O’Brien will return as host of the show, and he’ll be joined by Wendy Walsh, a correspondent on “Extra.” Dorothy Lucey was co-host of the original version.

Executive producer on the project is former co-executive producer of “America’s Most Wanted” Paul Sparrow, who signed a three-year production and development deal with Telepictures Prods. in July.

Former “Unsolved Mysteries” supervising producer Ed Horwitz will hold the same title at ‘How’d They Do That?” Amy Chacon, formerly with “CBS Evening News,” will be senior producer and Aaron Kass, former head writer for “Rescue 911,” will be producer and head writer.
