Okie exits ‘Renegade’ for ‘Battleground Earth’

Rick Okie is leaving Twentieth TV’s “Renegade” to executive produce “Gene Roddenberry’s Battleground Earth,” which is being launched by Tribune Entertainment Co. in fall 1997.

In addition to serving as executive producer, Okie will adapt and update the original Roddenberry pilot script, which was written in 1976, and the first 22 episodes. “Battleground Earth” is an hour weekly conceived by the creator of “Star Trek” and cleared on the Tribune station group. Also executive producing are Majel Barrett Roddenberry and David Kirschner.

Okie has been with “Renegade” since 1993, and he’s been executive producer since 1995. “Renegade,” which airs on USA Network, wraps its fifth season of production this month. He was also supervising producer of the sci-fi series “Quantum Leap,” and he created and executive produced the CBS sitcom “Major Dad,” which aired for five seasons.
