Ken Lemberger, exec VP of Sony Pictures Entertainment in charge of the corporate development group, is expected to be bumped up to a more senior slot in the nascent John Calley regime in coming weeks, according to insiders.
Lemberger will likely take over the duties of former Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Cos. president Fred Bernstein, who ankled the company last month. That would include handling the business side of the motion pic department, overseeing major negotiations with talent and keeping studio budgets in check.
Lemberger served in a similar role from 1990-94 for TriStar Pictures before Bernstein moved over from Universal.
It’s unclear whether Lemberger’s purview will cover the corporate development group, which acts in a strategic planning capacity identifying new biz opportunities throughout the world. His new duties are still being ironed out by Calley and Co. But he is expected to work closely with Col TriStar vice chairwoman Lucy Fisher and Col exec VP Gareth Wigan in an advisory role to Calley.
Lemberger could not be reached; Sony had no comment.
