Hoyts Cinemas Corp. will open a 16-screen megaplex in Stoughton, Mass. next November, the company said Monday. The project, which the company said would be its U.S. flagship cinema complex, will be built in Stoughton Technical Park near Boston. The Sydney-based company has about 1,000 screens in Australia, the United States and New Zealand. The new megaplex, at 80,000-square-feet, will have a total of about 3,600 seats, with stadium seating and digital sound systems. The development is part of Hoyts’ plans to add 1,000 screens and operate in 10 countries within five years. It recently signed an agreement with Cinemex, a Mexican designer and developer of multiplexes, to expand into Latin America. Hoyts is taking a 35% stake in Cinemex, becoming its largest shareholder. Meanwhile, the company plans to move its U.S. headquarters from Boston to the Stoughton Technical Park, near Reebok’s world headquarters. The company has about 700 screens in the United States, and is strongest in the Northeast.
