Top TV industry execs Kay Koplovitz and Tom Freston will deliver the keynote addresses at Variety’s Miami ShowBiz Summit Feb. 4 in Coral Gables, Fla.
The Summit will examine South Florida’s pivotal role in the international entertainment business landscape through a series of presentations and panel discussions.
Koplovitz has served as chairman and CEO of USA Networks since its inception in 1977 and has guided its growth to its current position as cable’s No. 1 ad-supported network. In addition, she oversaw the launch of the Sci-Fi Channel and spearheaded expansion internationally with launches of USA Latin America, Sci-Fi Channel in Europe and USA in Brazil.
Freston has been chairman and CEO of MTV Networks since August 1987, maintaining responsibility for MTV Networks’ five domestic programming services, including MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite and Nick at Nite’s TV Land.
In addition to Koplovitz and Freston, other prominent industry leaders will speak about entertainment economics, music in the Americas and Latin American broadcasting during the daylong gabfest.
Daily Variety and Variety will host a gala benefit dinner Feb. 3 in honor of the Film Society of Miami, producer of the Miami Film Festival. The fest’s 14th edition runs Jan. 31-Feb. 9.
“Variety continues to demonstrate a serious commitment to the Florida entertainment marketplace. By hosting the Summit, we are proud to spotlight the region’s resources and achievements,” said Gerry Byrne, VP and publisher of Daily Variety and Variety.
