NEW YORK — Jack Foley will join Gotham-based City Cinemas when he leaves his job as president of distribution at Miramax Films at year-end, sources said Thursday.
Miramax is hiring former Cineplex Odeon exec Neil Blatt to take Foley’s place (Daily Variety, Dec. 10).
The former head of distribution at MGM/UA, Foley worked at Miramax slightly less than three years. When rumblings of his dispute with Miramax co-chairmen Bob and Harvey Weinstein first surfaced this fall, it was rumored that Foley would ankle to join Loews Theatres, where head film programmer Travis Reid recently was elevated to prexy.
City Cinemas president Robert Smerling did not return phone calls seeking confirmation of Foley’s appointment, and Foley could not be reached for comment.
It was not known what Foley’s title will be at City Cinemas; the circuit operates 26 screens in Manhattan, including the Angelika Film Center, one of Gotham’s premier arthouses.
