HONG KONG – C-Span will air translated versions of selected news programs from China Central Television, according to Colorado-based Encore Intl., which represented CCTV in the negotiations with C-Span.
Beginning early next year, C-Span will dub CCTV’s news into English and air the programs on a regular basis, though specific times have not yet been determined.
The Chinese state broadcaster consists of eight channels and reaches more than 240 million TV households across the country.
Encore’s programming airs daily in primetime throughout China on CCTV-8, the general entertainment network.
In turn, Chinese programming is shown on Encore Intl.’s affiliate company Encore Media Corp.’s Intl. Channel, which has more than 7 million subscribers in the U.S. and Latin America.
