Former Cineplex Odeon exec VP Neil Blatt is reported to be in advanced discussions to join Miramax Films in the capacity of exec VP, distribution. Blatt, who was chief buyer of the Cineplex chain working out of L.A., had no comment.

However, industry sources insisted that Blatt’s move to Miramax was simply a matter of drawing up final legal documents. He’s expected to be on the job possibly as early as next week. It’s understood he will being relocating to New York.

It’s been widely reported that current Miramax distribution chief Jack Foley has been anxious to depart for several months. Foley, a 20-year industry vet, is largely credited with beefing up the company’s distribution arm to handle both specialized releases and more mainstream genre fare for its Dimension label.

Unconfirmed reports have Foley moving to Manhattan-based City Cinemas, which operates 24 screens in New York City and 40 screens in Puerto Rico. City Cinemas owns the prestigious Angelika Center which is currently booked by Jacobs Entertainment.

Foley was unavailable for comment and a Miramax spokesman said he was unable to confirm that the company was in negotiations with Blatt.
