BFI exec Emerson going to Beyond

SYDNEY – British Film Institute head of sales Dee Emerson is segueing to the newly created position of European sales and acquisitions executive for Aussie distrib Beyond Films. Emerson takes up the London-based post late January.

The appointment is further evidence of Beyond’s determination to acquire more non-Australian fare. While Beyond acquired worldwide distribution rights to only three films from 1993-95, this year it nabbed most global rights to Irish-German co-productions “The Sun, the Moon and the Stars” (a family romance) and “Last Bus Home” (a post-punk drama), plus German-French love pic “Obsession,” helmed by Peter Sehr, Germany’s award-winning director of “Kaspar Hauser, Crimes Against a Soul’s.”
