Murdoch has long hoped to give Fox a national news presence, though several high-profile attempts — including “Front Page” and “The Reporters”– have failed.

Fox Entertainment president John Matoian told Fox affils last week during their annual confab that the weblet was ready to launch a newsmagazine, but gave no details.

Project’s format may be to go without an anchor, according to a source familiar with plans for the newsmag.

Production: The Fox Network is prepping a primetime newsmagazine that may launch as early as the summer, according to sources last week at NATPE familiar with the project.
