McDonald’s Corp., which is looking for its next tie-in property at the Walt Disney Co., has been eyeing the upcoming John Hughes comedy “The Absent-Minded Professor.”
The only hitch: no likeness rights from star Robin Williams. “He won’t budge. He won’t give away anything,” said an insider, and that’s even after McD’s tried to coerce him with oodles of money. That means the burger biggie can’t use film clips for their TV spots that feature Williams.
McD’s should know better by now. Williams has been consistent in refusing to allow his likeness to be used in such promotions. And McD’s was the promotional partner on the Williams starrer “Hook.”
