Kidman gets mixed up in murder plots

GOOD MORNING: From inciting murder to capturing a murderer. Nicole Kidman, superb in “To Die For,” is now paged for several top pix, one in particular, Par’s “Kiss the Girls,” co-starring Morgan Freeman, who escapes a serial killer and whom Kidman assists (physically!) in the capture. Nicole now is busy starring in “Portrait of a Lady” for director Jane Campion. Kidman’s hubby, Tom Cruise, cruising about Europe on his wife’s locations, is talking the pro-football-set “Jerry McGuire,” which starts filming after the first of the year. Cruise has been in confabs with producer Jim Brooks at TriStar to star as the pic’s sports agent. Cameron Crowe is finetuning the script, which he also will direct. Some second unit may be filmed while the football season’s in full swing … It was a flattered Frances Fisher who was paged from the Vancouver site of her Fox “Strange Luck” series to Florida for a three-day role as Armand Assante’s wife in “Striptease,” starring Demi Moore. Fisher admits she asked producer Mike Lobell and director Andy Bergman, “Couldn’t you get an actress here (in Florida) for the role?” They told her, “We wanted you to play his wife — the wife he didn’t cheat on.” Fisher had scenes with Assante, Moore and Ving Rhames, returned to Vancouver with daughter Francesca. Yes, Clint Eastwood visits his little girl — and vice versa. On Oct. 20, Fisher has a featured seg on the “Strange Luck” series, which stars D.B. Sweeney … Who’s the busiest Baldwin brother? Daniel. He’s readying his fifth pic in a row, “A Rich Man’s Wife,” co-starring Halle Berry as his wife in the Caravan (Disney) feature. It’s highly dramatic — and physical. Young Baldwin’s previously completed pix this year include: “Mulholland Falls,” “Yesterday’s Target,” “Trees Lounge” and “A Family of Cops.” Charles Bronson plays Baldwin’s father in “Cops” and the young thesp says, “I think I may be the only man in Bronson’s illustrious career who made him cry”– in a scene in which Baldwin wouldn’t reveal ad lib dialogue to Bronson before shooting it! Despite all this feature work, Baldwin tells me he’d accept an offer to “recur” in the “Homicide” series if scripts were written for him — with fiancee Isabella Hoffman.

NO TV OR PRINT INTERVIEW REBUTTALS from prosecutor Marcia Clark — at least for the present. As for O.J.’s statement that he’d “sit and debate” with her, Clark calls it “a frivolous remark” and reminds, “I already invited him to talk to me — during the trial — and he declined!”… If you listen carefully to the voice of two callers-in to “Frasier’s” Dr. Frasier Crane on an upcoming seg, you’ll recognize these two “listeners” with problems: “Jack” is Billy Crystal and “Rob” is Ed Harris. Previous unnamed callers have included Mel Brooks, Carly Simon, Lily Tomlin, etc. … Producer Steven Haft is returning home to N.Y. after almost a year shooting on locations. “Emma,” starring Gwyneth Paltrow for Miramax, is winding up in London, and Haft promises this first leading role for her “will be the first of many.” Haft’s also winding up “Last Dance” with director Bruce Beresford for Touchstone, starring Sharon Stone. It will follow “Casino,” for which Stone is already getting hefty advance word of mouth praise from all we’ve spoken to on the pic. Haft’s return to U.S. filming will be “Knock, Knock” for NBC in association with Marcia Nasatir. The association between Haft and Nasatir ends with this project, as she rejoins Mike Medavoy and his Phoenix Prods. … Nothing fishy about this: Visual effects Oscar winner (“The Abyss”) Hoyt Yeatman, who also supervised the submarine visual effects for “Crimson Tide,” will wed Giselle Boras Oct. 21 — underwater off Catalina. The couple, plus the minister and whole wedding party, will be decked in finest scuba gear, including masks with mikes so all can hear everything. Other invited guests will be aboard Catalina’s semi-submersible tour boats — equipped with large windows — to view the underwater goings-on. The reception will be black-tie’d — on dry land. The newlyweds will feel at home in his house, which features a 10,000-gallon aquarium for which “Crimson Tide” director Tony Scott gifted him with — a leopard shark.

STEVERINO’S 44TH, 45TH AND 46TH — books, that is –“Murder at the Atlantic, ” “The Man Who Turned Back the Clock” and a kids’ book, “The Bug, the Slug and the Rug”– are on the stalls this month … Linda Palmer of the book division of Warren Cowan & Associates was named Outstanding Writing Instructor of the Year at UCLA Extension. (Hers is a screenwriting class). The former TriStar VP also has written two books, “Runaway” and “Starstruck”… A.C. Lyles, Par’s Ambassador of Goodwill, is at Florida State U. delivering his 50th lecture this year about Hollywood … The Governor’s Arts Awards, benefiting the California State Summer School of the Arts, presents its awards Oct. 24 at the BevWilshire. Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner, Ray Charles, Neil Simon and Charles Schulz are awardees … The Hollywood Women’s Press Club Scholarship Foundation presented its awards at Jimmy’s.
