Turner orders up ‘ Dexter’

Hanna-Barbera Cartoons Inc.’s “Dexter’s Laboratory,” an animated short that has been running on Turner Broadcasting System’s Cartoon Network, has been expanded into a half-hour series for the cable web as well as sister channels TNT and TBS.

“Dexter’s Laboratory,” created by Genndy Tartakovsky, is the first breakout cartoon of the World Premiere Toons series running on Cartoon Network. The show was nominated for an Emmy in the outstanding animated program category. The series is about a boy who creates inventions in his bedroom.

The series will debut on all three cable webs in April 1996, and could be expanded to a Monday-Friday strip for 1997.
