Fox Broadcasting exec Dan McDermott will join DreamWorks as head of the company’s TV programming efforts, a spokesman confirmed.
McDermott’s appointment follows a lengthy search from a list of TV industry candidates that was said to have included his wife, Jamie McDermott, who recently signed a new longterm deal as senior VP of primetime series at NBC Entertainment.
McDermott has been at Fox since 1990, most recently as exec VP of current programming & specials, a post he was named to a year ago. Still, his deal wasn’t extended at that time, and it’s been understood since February – when Bob Greenblatt was officially named exec VP overseeing all primetime comedy and drama development – that McDermott would likely leave when his contract expired this spring.
The exec was said to be weighing several possible moves, including an internal shift to the feature side of 20th Century Fox.
