‘Today’ wins the morning and Dave takes night

The sweeps are over, so daytime and fringe ratings settled down during the May 29-June 2 Nielsen week, with a solid win for NBC’s “Today” in the morning race.

“Late Show With David Letterman” repeats held sway in latenight, as “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” was delayed four nights in most time zones due to NBA playoff basketball coverage.

Letterman posted a 4.6 rating, 13 share overall, tying “Nightline” (4.9/13) in their common half-hour, with a 2.7 rating among adults 18-49 to a 2.1 for both rival shows. “Tonight” (3.9/15) was hurt by basketball coverage, though repeats of NBC’s “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” (1.8/11) held constant with the show’s recent numbers and topped “Late Late Show With Tom Snyder” (1.5/7).

“Today” scored a 4.2/19 to edge “Good Morning America” (4.1/19) in households and total viewers – categories the ABC breakfastcast won during sweeps.
