The first pairings of the two queens of talk – King World’s “Oprah Winfrey” and Columbia TriStar Television Distribution’s “Ricki Lake” – in top markets will happen this fall in San Francisco and San Diego.
Capital Cities/ABC-owned KGO San Francisco has snagged “Ricki” away from from Chronicle-owned NBC affil KRON and plans to plug it in at 3 p.m. as a lead-in to “Oprah.”
“Ricki” didn’t come cheap for KGO. Per industry sources, KRON paid about $15,000 a week for the talker, and KGO has at least doubled that. Some put KGO’s price as high as $45,000 per week.
In San Diego, McGraw-Hill Broadcasting-owned ABC affil KGTV has acquired “Ricki” for $12,000 to $15,000 a week and also will use it as a lead-in to “Oprah.”
