‘Heaven’ To Family Channel

With angels cropping up all over the showbiz landscape, from movies and primetime series to Pulitzer Prize-winning plays and hardcover books, the Family Channel has just landed one of the most popular angels of them all, Michael Landon’s Jonathan Smith in “Highway to Heaven.”

Although executives at Genesis Entertainment, which owns the rights to the 111 “Highway” hours, and Family Channel declined comment, sources say Family will pony up about $8 million for an undisclosed number of runs over a multiyear license term for all of the episodes. The series winds up its five-year TV syndication run this season, and Family will be able to start stripping it in this fall.
