CBS, NBC snap up Marvel toon fare

New World Entertainment has sold TV movies/backdoor pilots based on Marvel Comics characters to CBS and NBC, augmenting a multiproject order from Pox Broadcasting Co.

NBC bought a two-hour script based on Marvel’s “The Punisher,” while CBS has opted to turn a proposed pilot presentation on the comic character “She-Hulk” into a movie that will likely begin production later this summer. Fox Broadcasting recently announced a series of Marvel titles as part of its movie lineup, with “Nick Fury” planned for next season and follow-up telefilms based on Generation X and the Black Widow.

Those deals are part of a broad slate of programs in the works at New World, which, 10 months after signing chairman Brandon Tartikoff to jumpstart its production activities, also sold its first two primetime series in years: “Strange Luck,” which premieres on Fox Broadcasting in the, fall, and the ABC midseason hour “Second Noah.”
